Let me introduce: our new astrologer Nina Keijzer

At Amayzine, we are crazy about horoscopes. In every magazine, we flip straight to what our zodiac sign has to say. That's why this news is the most delightful thing written in the stars, because – drumroll – starting Monday, you can read your horoscope with us. Astrologer Nina Keijzer draws a tarot card for each zodiac sign every week and tells you what to expect. But there's more, because with the new moon and full moon, she also makes her voice heard.

Nina, tell us something about yourself based on your sign
“I am a Leo and I have literally been that lion my whole life. When I walk in, you know I'm there, even if I say nothing. I used to be the first to climb onto the stage, I loved presenting and being in front of the class. But I am also very loyal and have the urge to be a source of inspiration for others. I enjoy bringing people together where I can, even if they don't have much in common. Self-expression and creativity are important to me, which manifests in writing. And I often sing, although that's usually in the shower.”

How did you come into contact with astrology?
“I have always picked up a bit of that from home. It started when I was three years old; my mother took me to a store where I could choose a crystal. My mother meditated, practiced mindfulness, and our whole house was filled with gemstones. If something was wrong or I wasn't doing well at school, she would come with a gemstone. It was always very normal for me. I knew a little about my zodiac sign, but I didn't know astrology was so vast. In 2018, I got fully into it. It started with one zodiac sign, but as you start to explore, you encounter so much more.”

Why do you think spirituality is booming now?
“It has always been within us; horoscopes are so old. Astrology has existed since 2000 BC, so it has always been there. In ancient Egypt, people were already working with chakras and gemstones. The scientific revolution changed that, leading to a separation. Now we are living in a period where people feel the need to develop and discover themselves, especially through social media. The world is moving so fast; it's nice to find a moment of peace for yourself in spirituality.”

Why tarot?
“Tarot has existed since the Renaissance. It was purely a card game for fun, but when spirituality emerged, it turned out there was much more to it. It grew into a spiritual card game. Oracle cards are, for example, more intuitive. For Amayzine, I will literally ask every week what message the universe has for a sign. Based on that, a card will come. It can also be read for your ascendant and moon sign.”

And you will also write about the moon?
“The moon has eight phases. The big two are the new moon and the full moon, both have their own meaning. You often hear people say it must have been a full moon because they slept poorly; the energy of the moon is strong. The new moon is the first phase, representing renewal, the beginning of new projects, and it's a good time to set intentions for the month and to manifest. For example, make a new moon wish. Around the new moon, you often hear that people feel fit and energetic. At full moon, they are usually exhausted and tired, but they can't sleep. This moon represents letting go; during this moon phase, you see results. It's a beautiful period to let go of the old. It may be that your emotions are more intense around this moon, and it enhances your intuitive side.”

Would you like to draw a first card for the readers?
“It's the hanged man. This sounds much worse than it is. It's a time to look at things differently. Take the perspective you have now and literally look at it from another angle. The hanged man represents a phase where people are stuck in the past where they feel at home, but also struggle with the future. You can expect a delay, which goes hand in hand with indecision. It's a good moment to step outside of yourself to see the bigger picture. It's also an exercise in patience and to move a bit away from your ego. It helps to say: I am open to receiving things, I am ready for it. Allow yourself that too. It's time to ask yourself what your bigger vision for life is and what steps you can take. Don't be afraid to close a door to get to where you want to be; it's about success in the long term.”

Every Monday, Nina's weekly horoscope can be read on Amayzine. Around the new moon and full moon, she provides insight into what the moon means.
