Netflix tip: Twintigers Austin

Netflix tip: Twintigers Austin

Speaking of a blessing in disguise: I proudly managed to finish Emily in Paris within 24 hours (bad luck). After that, I was forced to watch another series and then I found a true gem (good luck). I present to you: Twentysomethings Austin.

A new reality series that is now on Netflix (the entire first season, love it) and that reminds me a lot of The Real World, which used to be on MTV. And then you know, if you've ever seen that, that it's pure enjoyment. The concept is incredibly simple: put a bunch of twentysomethings in one house with all different goals and ambitions and in a new city where they have to live, work, and chase their dreams. Meanwhile, they fall in love with each other, there's drama, crying, laughing, everything together. Okay, now that I write it down, this is just really The Real World 2.0.

This group is in a house in Austin. One wants to become a stand-up comedian, another has just gotten divorced, another is gay but struggles with the fact that he has never had a relationship, and so on. In the first episode, really five seconds after the first meeting, they are already speculating among themselves (and during the confessionals) about who they do or do not like.

It reminded me so much of back in the camping days or on a youth trip with GOGO or Beachmasters when you first saw the rest of your group. Immediately orienting: is there anyone here for me? Who am I going to click with? It's on the edge of awkwardness. Just right.

So yes, I'm right in the middle of season 1 and I couldn't keep this tip from you. Definitely add it to your list for a lazy Sunday. Tomorrow, for example.
