Netflix tip of the day: Jailbirds New Orleans

During lockdown, I felt like I had completely finished Netflix. I ran out of inspiration and so it happened that I started over with Orange Is the New Black. It's still a wonderful series, although it did get (to be honest) a bit less over time. That season with the riot felt a bit too long for me and it didn't really become more believable. Because that's not really how it goes in the prison world, right?
Well, sometimes it does. A little bit. Just check out Jailbirds New Orleans, which is now on Netflix and is a reality series that follows women in prison. To be precise, they are in the Orleans Justice Center. You follow about six women and their daily lives. And yes, flirting is also part of it, which we see a lot in Orange Is The New Black. Whether we will really get a good replacement for Piper and Alex is still a question (I haven't finished the first season yet), but this one is definitely worth watching.
The series is a bit less spectacular and contains less sensation than Orange Is the New Black, because here no guards are stabbed, the prison is not put in lockdown by a prisoner uprising, but fortunately, we also don't see people like Poussey tragically losing their lives. Thank goodness, because I still haven't fully processed that death.
No, maybe this isn't as juicy as Orange Is the New Black, but that was to be expected with a reality series. It is, however, a delightful behind-the-scenes look, incredibly interesting, and definitely suitable if you're looking for a nice replacement for OITNB after all these years.
