Psst... There's a fortune in your kitchen drawer

Douwe Egberts

You probably think saving points is something for your grandma. Maybe your mom, but not for you. I can sketch them out at the kitchen table with piles of value points, bound together by rubber bands. I sometimes get asked at the cheese shop if I save points, but if I even manage to keep that savings card with me and fill it up, I end up losing it anyway. But saving with Douwe Egberts, the oldest savings program in the Netherlands, can be very easy via the Douwe Egberts website. And what's even more current: you can donate your value points to charities. Or choose something for yourself from it.

Anyway, I'm going to explain how it works. On the coffee packs from D.E and from Senseo®️ but also on the tea bags from Pickwick (I really devour those) are value points. You collect them and cut them out. Then you create an account on the.nl then you go to a Blokker branch and deposit the value points into your account. After that, you can either choose something for yourself from the Douwe Egberts gift collection at Blokker, but preferably you donate it to charity.

Which charity?
Douwe Egberts has selected four charities such as the Forgotten Child Foundation (here they organize a fun day out for children who, for whatever reason, cannot go on vacation), Food Banks Netherlands, the National Elderly Fund, the Silver Line (a call service for a nice chat or a good conversation) and the Oranje Fonds, the Buddy Project.

I have quite a bit of extra time during this work-from-home lockdown period, and you probably do too. Just take an evening to cut out the points from the D.E boxes, make a collection jar for a good cause, and make a trip to Blokker. Yes, that's an outing these days. You'll see how quickly you collect points; after all, we are home all day and drink liters of coffee and tea. Also a fun task for your kids to ask neighbors for empty tea boxes and coffee packages from filter coffee and Senseo®️ instead of trading tea bags.

And the fun kicker: if you give your points to a charity, D.E increases the ‘balance’ by 20 percent, so we can really make a difference. I'm getting started right away, are you joining?
