Real life: “My girlfriend has corona and I think that's just fine”

Cindy notices that her friendships have changed enormously since we have been dealing with the coronavirus, and not in a positive way. The reason: Cindy notices that her friends don't care and are not taking it seriously.

“From the beginning of corona, I took the phenomenon seriously. I think everyone found that quite annoying. I was the one who pointed out the rules to my employer and urged him to actually create walking paths and place disinfectants everywhere. I was also the first to want to work from home because I felt that we could only extinguish this by all working thoroughly.

I immediately felt a polarization between myself and my friends. They all found it terribly exaggerated and changed nothing. Dinners just went on, the curfew was completely ignored, and when I said they couldn't come in because the cleaner and my son's tutor were already inside, they didn't understand that at all.

Actually, I was quite happy that I had a legitimate reason not to be at dinners because I was going completely crazy from all those corona stories. The theories were flying around the table. All structurally unsubstantiated and all with the same conclusion: it was all nonsense, everyone was doing it wrong, and olé olé, we’ll have another one.

Of all people, I, the cautious one, got corona. No idea how, but I was really sick from it. My friends were nice to me, really, but I am a thousand percent sure they laughed at me during the dinners that just went on. It was exactly the confirmation of everything they already suspected: you can't prevent it anyway. It's a lottery whether you get it or not, so you might as well have fun.

But now, with the harbor in sight because almost everyone is vaccinated, my friend has corona. With everything that comes with it (well, no hospitalization but she feels terrible, and she can't go on vacation). I feel bad, I'm ready for her, really, but a tiny little chuckle of justice, yes, I do have that.”

In this unusual time, we asked people for their honest story.
