Just out of a box: Red Velvet Baileys Cake

Baileys cake

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: red velvet Baileys cake.

There is nothing wrong with baking a cake from a mix, we think. After all, there are plenty of products that we prefer to throw in our shopping cart rather than start making ourselves. Okay, making a cake from scratch isn't very complicated, but from a mix? We don't turn up our food snob noses at it, you know. Especially not when Baileys is involved.

With a thick layer of frosting on the outside and moist red cake on the inside, the red velvet is a true classic cake that you can order at practically any (good) pastry shop. A bottle of Baileys? That is always in my liquor cabinet. But this cake mix has both components together in one handy package.

Here's how to do it
Inside the box is a bag of instant cake mix, a small bottle of Baileys, and some chocolate and sprinkles to decorate with. To make the cake, you also need milk and eggs, and for the frosting, cream. Just like all other cake mixes from a box, you throw everything – hop – into a bowl and mix it for a few minutes until smooth. Bake it in the oven, let it cool, and in the meantime, make the Baileys cream for inside the cake and to cover the cake. Melt some chocolate and sprinkle it on top, along with some fun sprinkles, and you have a cake that will make any party animal happy.

Let's bake!
