Science says: the first kiss determines if you are compatible

Just think about that very first kiss or the very first kisses. It's actually like getting a coupon for a lot more goodies or it's the letdown of the century. Right? By the way, women seem to attach more value to that kiss than men do.

I still remember my very first kiss, but especially the first kiss after that first kiss when I discovered how it could also be. Kissing only became more enjoyable afterwards, with the occasional miss in between. Until the moment I kissed someone who I thought was made to kiss me. Luckily, it didn't stop at that one time. Research now shows that that kiss says a lot.

For instance, 66 percent of women and 59 percent of men have experienced a loss of desire after a first kiss. By the way, there was no identifiable reason for this, like overly wet kissing for example, but the chemistry just disappeared immediately. Evolutionary psychologist Gordon Gallup thinks this is a kind of warning from our reproductive mechanism. As if it’s saying: beware, these genes do not match yours. “Bacteria in the mouth can indicate a hereditary inability to combat those pathogens,” writes Quest.

Did you know that a French kiss can actually be deadly? When kissing, you exchange millions of bacteria and it’s one of the ways the Zika virus spreads. A million, yes, think about that for a moment.

By the way, it’s not strange that women base more on that first kiss than men. According to the laws of nature, it’s more important for women to be able to assess whether someone is a good partner to reproduce with. For men, kissing is really just about starting a sexual encounter.

Fun fact: men kiss wetter because they have testosterone in their saliva, which stimulates sexual desire in the partner.

Research also shows that kissing becomes especially more important as women develop more economically. It sounds like something from prehistoric times, but the more independent a woman is, the more crucial it is for her to be able to determine which partner is suitable. Just take a look: evolution is also a feminist, we love that.
