Sleeping on the right side of the bed makes you a grumpy type

Do you have a terrible morning mood or does your lover have that? Do you always sleep on the left and your partner always on the right or the other way around? According to scientists, it says more about your personalities than you might think.

Because sleeping on the right doesn't give the best predictions. And by right, we mean when you're standing in front of the bed, not when you're lying in it.

Grumbling
You would actually be a grumpier type of person, according to the numbers. The research was conducted by the British bed and mattress manufacturer Sealy among more than 1000 people from the United Kingdom. The group was questioned about the influence of their sleeping habits and of course their mood. The result was surprising: people who sleep on the right are much more likely than average to suffer from a annoying morning mood. People who sleep on the left side of the bed have an 8 percent higher chance of a nice, social and a successful professional life, 4 percent more likely to wake up cheerful, and 9.5 percent more likely to have a positive outlook on life. They look forward to the new day. Looking forward to what life brings them. In other words: they are optimists, more than the people who prefer to lie on the right.

Switching, darling?
And there's more. If you sleep on the right side, you prefer to be alone rather than surrounded by people and you are 7 percent more susceptible to a bad mood even before you've had your first cup of coffee of the day. You are 5 percent more likely to think negatively and you have a 3 percent higher chance that you don't enjoy your job at all. You tend to have a somewhat more negative outlook on life when you dive under the sheets on the right. The glass is more often half empty than half full for you, unfortunately. You have little desire for the new day. You prefer to stay in bed and spend the whole day binge-watching Netflix. Well.

What can you do about it? Not much. You can always take this kind of research with a grain of salt, because it doesn't say everything about your personality based on where you sleep or where your partner lies. But if you do sleep on the left anyway, it certainly can't hurt to keep lying on the left. You never know, right?
