These are the 3 sneaky fatteners that everyone forgets

I find nothing as sad as counting calories. Honestly: on a dreary rainy day, you just want to indulge in that cream puff because you can? Because it's allowed?

I get happy from good food and could never give it up. Of course, it shouldn't get out of hand, but treating yourself to a bag of chips or a Kinder Bueno is perfectly fine. And you know what? Those aren't even the ultimate fatteners. According to experts, there are actually three sneaky fatteners that everyone forgets. And that is not that one hamburger at McDonald's, every now and then.

Sugar high
What they are? Here they come:

1. Olive oil
One tablespoon per person is a good guideline, but we usually end up pouring way too much oil into the pan. And it remains 100 percent fat; it's really not true that extra virgin olive oil is less fatty than a pack of butter, even though it sometimes seems like a healthier choice. One tablespoon of olive oil contains about 100 calories. Just add it up if you throw that into your pan every evening.

2. Healthy juices
Juice sometimes seems like the ultimate way to get your daily dose of vitamins: cold pressed juices are trendier than ever. But it's comparable to sugar water, according to experts. This is because you throw away the fibers with the pulp and there is more fruit in the juice than you would normally eat as a snack. And because you drink it, it fills you less than when you eat fruit. What you can try are vegetable juices, as they naturally contain less sugar. So drink, for example, a celery juice. Not very tasty, we understand that, but it does provide vitamins plus little sugar.

3. Bars
Another thing you think: handy. But it's not handy. You quickly buy it somewhere at the station or in the store when you're hungry. A snack like a muesli bar, diet bar, or oatmeal cookie: they are all equally unhealthy. Even if they seem ‘super healthy’. They often contain much more sugar than you expect, even in those meal bars that promise to help you lose weight. Instead of this kind of processed food, choose something pure, like a date, a piece of fruit, or yogurt. That will give you a feeling of fullness and a slim body.

So, as long as I stick to this list a bit, that croquette for lunch is sometimes really fine. Balance is key, right? I think I'm in love with balance.
