Spaghetti ice cream really exists

Spaghetti ice cream really exists

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: spaghetti ice cream.

Most people know that in Germany, besides sausages and beer, you can also enjoy excellent Turkish food. Long live immigration. But did you know that a lot of Italians have also come to Germany? With extremely good ideas…

Dario Fontanella is one of them. The son of an Italian immigrant and owner of an ice cream parlor in Mannheim, Germany, met a few children in 1969 who were crying hard because they wanted ice cream instead of a plate of pasta. So Dario came up with the fantastic idea of a hybrid dish that makes the cronut pale in comparison: spaghetti ice cream. Or in German: Spaghettieis.

Just like real
Sounds strange, but in fact, it’s just vanilla ice cream that is pressed through a machine, making it look like strands of spaghetti. Neatly twirled on a plate, a good dollop of strawberry sauce on top, and you have the ’tomato sauce’. Coconut flakes, powdered sugar, or almond pieces work well as Parmesan.

Medal
Fontanella received the Boomaulorden medal from Mannheim in 2014 for his creation. And we understand why. Although it was a hidden gem on German ice cream menus for a long time, the ice cream is now making a comeback. What do you expect, it fits perfectly among cronuts, duffins, and cretzels.

Buon Appetito! Or should we say Guten Appetit?
