Would you pay 10,000 euros for a hat from Michael Jackson? No? 600 euros for an 18th-century condom made of sheep intestine then? There are crazies who do it. Catawiki (a kind of Marktplaats for unique objects) reveals the most extraordinary auctions of the past ten years. And trust me: there have been quite a few strange items that went under the hammer...

1. The skeleton of a woolly mammoth
I shit you not. What you do with it or where you put it: no idea, but there was a Dutch buyer who thought it was a great plan to pay 120,000 euros for a set of bones from a complete mammoth that is 5.5 meters long and 3.2 meters high. Okeeee…

2. A golden LEGO brick
The most expensive LEGO brick ever auctioned, made of 14-carat gold, auctioned for nearly 19,000 euros. Can that person with so much money boredom please also make a donation for my student debt? Thank you.

3. The hat of Michael Jackson from Moonwalker
The one and only white Fedora hat that Michael Jackson wore in the film Moonwalker and in the official Smooth Criminal video. Signed with ‘Love Michael Jackson –> 1998’. Auctioned for 10,000 euros to a Dutch buyer.

4. Condom from the 18th/19th century
A more than 200-year-old contraceptive made of sheep intestine. Length: 19 centimeters. Condition: well preserved. Auctioned for 600 euros by a Dutch seller. WHAT IS WRONG WITH. PEOPLE.

5. Puma running shoe of Usain Bolt
A nice sweaty shoe that world record holder sprinter and Olympic champion Usain Bolt wore during the World Championships in 2015. Signed by Bolt himself. Auctioned for 16,000 euros by a Dutch seller.

6. The original ‘hair’ of Napoleon Bonaparte
It’s getting crazier by the minute. A hair snippet (about 4 millimeters) from none other than Napoleon himself. The most expensive piece of hair in the world, auctioned for 2,000 euros to a Dutch buyer.

7. A Ford Mustang from Sylvester Stallone from 1965
A red Ford Mustang that was previously owned by actor and film director Sylvester Stallone. Auctioned for 43,000 euros. Imagine having that in your driveway.

8. Game of Thrones script ‘Winter is Coming’
If you really get bored with your piles of cash, you can always invest in the production script of the first episode of Game of Thrones. The original script of the pilot ‘Winter Is Coming’ (2011) with signatures from six actors was auctioned for 1,800 euros by a Dutch seller to a Dutch buyer.

9. A drawing by Beatrix
Once, twice? A beautiful drawing that Princess Beatrix of Orange-Nassau presumably made at the age of 14 (in the 1950s) of horses in the meadow. Auctioned for 4,900 euros by a Dutch seller to a Dutch buyer.

10. And then we still have: Tintin...
Because rare comics are always popular at auctions, right? Of the Tintin album ‘L’île noire’ (known as the alternative version of the story ‘The Black Island’), there are only three copies worldwide. The historical document is a workbook full of notes and corrections from author Hergé. Auctioned for 68,000 euros by a Dutch seller. Ka-ching.
