The 10 most used excuses to stop working earlier

We've all done it at some point: using a small excuse to leave work early. At least I have. Sometimes you just have a bad day and want to get back to bed as soon as possible. British research shows that 35 percent of employees use an excuse to leave work early. Below you will find a list of the 10 most used excuses.

1. I don't feel well
This is of course a classic. When someone then asks what exactly is wrong, you can't really give an answer. Often you respond with something like: I don't know exactly, but I definitely don't feel good enough to work.

2. I have to go to the doctor/dentist
I mainly used this excuse when I was still in high school. It's a watertight excuse. Such appointments are difficult to reschedule. In the case of the doctor, no one will ask you why you have to go.

3. You're expecting an important package
Something is being delivered today, right at the end of the afternoon. Something big that absolutely cannot go to the neighbors. A fridge or television, for example. So you really have to leave early to receive this. To make it even better: someone has to sign for receipt.

4. Traffic jam
You've heard that there has been a serious accident. Probably somewhere on the A10. Do you want to be home in time for dinner? Then you really have to leave now.

5. Your partner is sick
The chances are quite high that you can go home when you indicate that you need to take care of your loved one who is sick in bed. I personally wouldn't use this one quickly, as I believe in karma.

6. Your pet needs to go to the vet
I guess this excuse is mainly used by people without pets. I would never use my dog Sjaan for this: again, bad karma.

7. I need some rest
As a boss, you absolutely do not want your employee to end up in a burnout. You feel like you're on the edge, and therefore he/she will really let you go home. Just take your rest.

8. Unforeseen circumstances
This can be anything. Your basement is flooded, so you need to go home immediately. Or worse: there has been a break-in. Continuing to work is definitely not an option.

9. My loved one/housemate has locked themselves out
Of course, you are the only one with a key. How heartless is it to leave someone standing outside? There's no other option: you have to go home.

10. I forgot to arrange a babysitter
I have never used this one because I don't have children, but I can imagine this is a very strong excuse. Which boss wants your child to be sad and alone waiting on the schoolyard? Hurry up!
