Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: pasta chips.

You knew it wasn't the intention, but you secretly hoarded pasta, all kinds, and now you’re left with a bag of farfalle (butterflies/bows) and honestly, you’re quite fed up with pasta by now. The solution: chips. Made from pasta.

We also have to miss our colleagues time in the editorial office and happy hour just isn't the same, sniff, without a microwavepopcorn to share... But when we came across this amazing tip, we felt at least deeply connected, all hovering over our own little pot of fat. Who could have thought that something so simple could be such a hit – although that’s actually completely logical. Pasta + frying: what’s not to love?

INGREDIENTS
500 g farfalle
oil for frying, such as sunflower oil
100 g Parmesan cheese, grated
1 tsp Italian herbs
1 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper
tomato sauce for dipping

Here’s how to make the pasta chips

  1. Cook the farfalle according to the instructions on the package al dente in a large pot of well-salted water.
  2. Drain and let it dry.
  3. Prepare a large plate with paper towels.
  4. Heat about 2 centimeters of oil in a deep frying pan or a sauté pan (not non-stick) over medium heat.
  5. After a few minutes, test the temperature of the oil with a small piece of bread; if it turns golden brown after about 10 seconds, the temperature is right for frying.
  6. Carefully scoop a quarter of the cooked pasta into the hot oil with a metal slotted spoon.
  7. Fry for about 2 minutes and then (very carefully!) turn the pasta over.
  8. Fry for another 2 minutes, carefully scoop out of the pan and let drain on the plate with paper towels.
  9. Then mix immediately in a large bowl with the Parmesan, Italian herbs, garlic powder and salt and pepper.
  10. Repeat with the remaining pasta.
  11. Serve with a hearty tomato sauce for dipping, and it can definitely come from a jar.
