This is how you make white glühwein

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: the recipe for white glühwein.
Glühwein, no Christmas market or ice rink is complete without it. With its warm, spicy flavor, it is also the ultimate winter drink. Are you a fan of the red variant? Then also try the weisse (white) glühwein.
Preparation: 5 min
Cooking: 45 min
Servings: 5
INGREDIENTS
1 bottle of white wine
3 cloves
peel of 1 lemon
peel of 1 orange
1 cinnamon stick (tip: check the Asian store, you can buy cinnamon sticks cheaply there)
1 vanilla pod
piece of ginger (2 cm)
1 tsp cardamom
1 star anise
1 tsp sugar
White glühwein is, as you would expect, made with white wine. And preferably with a sweet one. It doesn't have to be a sweet Muscat right away; a richer Chenin Blanc or off-dry Riesling can also work. The basic ingredients are the same as for the red variant: clove, lemon, cinnamon, and sugar. Spices like ginger, cardamom, and star anise, along with a vanilla pod, are the flavor enhancers in white glühwein.
This is how you make white glühwein
- Pour the wine into a pot and heat it over low heat. The wine must not boil!
- Cut the vanilla pod in half and scrape the seeds out with the back of a knife. Peel the ginger and slice it.
- Add the stick, the seeds, and the other spices to the wine. Twist the orange and lemon peels over the pot before adding them. This way, the aromas are released even better during heating.
- Let the glühwein steep for 30 to 45 minutes.
- Pour into cups or wine glasses and serve.
Tip: add a splash of gin, extra delicious!
