This photo of Khloé Kardashian has leaked and the family is not happy

Khloe Kardashian

When I read online last night that a photo of Khloé Kardashian had leaked, causing the whole family to be in an uproar, I thought: oh no, not a nude photo or some other kind of photo that is absolutely not meant for other people's eyes? But soon I found out what kind of photo it was, and I can tell you: I have some questions.

Let me start with the fact that I can't post the photo here because Team Kardashian is genuinely scouring the entire internet for people who repost this photo. Twitter accounts are temporarily locked (so they can't post anything for a certain period) when they repost or share the photo, and Instagram accounts also get a block. Users of the latter receive an explanation that the photo is owned by Khloé Kardashian with an email address of the family business to contact if they disagree. Now, for a few hours, internet forum Reddit is also in the mix: moderators warn that if you post the photo, you will get a block and there could even be legal consequences. Okay, it's clear: Khloé wants this photo to absolutely disappear from the face of the earth.

But my question is... Why? With a sly workaround, I can show you the photo, as it is still on the Daily Mail's site. Spoiler alert: there is nothing serious about it. It's a photo of Khloé in a bikini, apparently taken by her assistant (who – I guess – is now out of a job since the leak would also come from her side). When the photo initially circulated online, it received a super positive response. I mean, just look at that body: the lady is 36 (and has given birth to a child) and I think many women would kill for a body like that. There was also enthusiastic feedback because finally, a photo came online that was NOT fully airbrushed, which didn't involve hours of Photoshop work but simply showed how Khloé really is. And she should be proud of that, as far as I'm concerned.

It's bizarre that the Kardashian family sees this so differently and is willing to take such extreme measures. It's also intense to see how much power such a famous family has: all social media platforms are simply being scanned for this photo. Users reported that the photo was removed within three minutes and they received their (temporary) block. Just to be clear: these were not negative posts, okay (although there will definitely be some among them), it was about people who indicated they had reposted the photo because they actually find it a good example of Khloé. More #echtinsta, that kind of thing.

It's also striking how unfortunate the timing of this is, as sister Kylie pleaded a few days ago in her Stories for photos and videos without filters, to show more authenticity. Well, apparently they don't fully support that. And it's quite remarkable that they are very successful in completely erasing photos from the internet, while they didn't lift a finger when brother Rob posted nude photos of Blac Chyna online. It would have been nice if they had used their power back then too.

Well, maybe it's not entirely nice that I'm also giving attention to the photo now, but I still find it an interesting thing: why does she find this photo so terrible? I find that quite a heavy idea because in my eyes, there is really nothing wrong with this photo.

Unfortunately for Khloé, she is now also a bit of a victim of the Streisand effect: singer Barbra Streisand sued a website in 2003 that had posted a photo of her house. It was a very obscure website and the photo wasn't viewed much... Until the lawsuit and the URL became known. Result: everyone got to see the photo, and that wasn't exactly her intention. That's also what's happening here now, but that it's with an innocent bikini photo, I didn't expect that. Is no Photoshop really such a nightmare?
