TikTok challenge: are you joining the 75 Hard Challenge?

Wieke behind the phone

There is a new trend going on on TikTok again. No, this time no beauty hacks or iPhone hacks, but one where you have to put in a bit more effort yourself. I present to you: the #75hardchallenge. But, what is it exactly and perhaps more importantly: is it doable?

The idea originated to get summer ready and to get fit in 75 days. Maybe it's just me, but I already dropped out at one of the first rules: 75 days without alcohol. Yeah sorry, but that’s just not going to happen for me (especially not with the nice weather that’s coming but actually this just isn’t possible at all). If you’re not just like me a functional alcoholic, then you can see if the other rules are just as achievable.

The 75 Hard Challenge originated in 2019 and was invented by someone named Frisella. Side note: this is not a certified trainer or dietitian, but a podcast maker. How healthy it is for you, that’s not entirely certain, but you should definitely get fit from it.

Okay, let’s go: the basic principles of the #75HardChallenge:

1. Follow a diet
It doesn’t matter which diet. Not the every-day-Maccie diet of course, but whether you do keto, Sonja Bakker or another type of diet doesn’t matter. Just choose one. Cheat days are not allowed, just like alcohol. This is where I dropped out.

2. Be active for 45 minutes a day
Whether that’s walking or a real workout, it doesn’t matter. As long as it’s outside (although it’s not entirely clear why; maybe because the fresh air is supposed to be healthy for you?).

3. Drink four liters of water a day
Speaks for itself, I think.

4. Read ten pages a day from a non-fiction book
I find this such a strange rule. Why only ten pages? Just when you’re getting into it, you have to stop. Just say one book per week or something and fill it in further yourself. But okay, ten per day then.

5. Take a cold shower for five minutes every day
Seems hellish to me, but I also prefer to shower at cremation mode.

6. Take a photo of your progress every day
Actually quite logical, this one.

And, does it sound doable? I find it a bit of a vague challenge to be honest, and I just stick to my 3 to 4 times working out per week and if I feel like having a drink, then I take it. That works best for me (also for my emotional health). By the way, it works for the TikToker below too.
