Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia
Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia, €129,- Gucci

The Flora tradition of Gucci goes ‘a long way’ back. All the way to the floral print you found on the Gucci Bamboo Bag of Grace Kelly, to be precise. As befits a classic fashion brand, Gucci draws on the classics but continues to mold and fold towards the present. Credit where credit is due: it was Frida Giannini who decided to wipe the fabric of the Flora prints and start a perfume line that referred to the iconic print, but leaves it with a satisfied heart to Alessandro Michele to ensure an ‘on steroids’ version. Subtlety is not in his dictionary, but beautiful, fairy-tale-like, and coloring outside the lines certainly is.

For Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia, he asked Miley Cyrus who, to be fair, rocks even the long nape so much that Nathan Rutjes is now definitely considering a long fringe as well. In the Gucci campaign video, she dives into flower bushes, cuddles with coiffed poodles, and walks into a beach house that is the baby house of Villa Kakelbont and the Barbie Dreamhouse. And if there has to be some guitar strumming, it of course has to be pink.

I was one of the lucky ones who received the bottle in the mail. And it was in a box. Pink, with floral wallpaper on both sides on the inside. And the bottle has a golden cap. And that same floral print. You would almost, almost, almost forget that it ultimately is about the scent, which is as you would expect from Gucci: subtle, rich, soft, sensual, and fresh at the same time thanks to jasmine, pear, brown sugar, jasmine, and gardenia of course.
