Why the theme of the latest Linda.meiden is so important

89 percent of women have ever experienced street harassment. On a scale of 10, women give a 5.6 when it comes to safety on the street. 55 percent take a different route in the evening than during the day. Those are the dismal statistics that come from surveys among women. Recognizable?
For many women, it is (unfortunately) not something unfamiliar. Pretending to be on the phone with someone because it makes you feel safer on the street. Just to be safe, clutching your keys between your fingers, because you never know — you could use it for self-defense. Doubting your outfit — is this skirt not too short? — because you want to cycle or walk home undisturbed and with a safer feeling.
Street harassment happens far too much and far too often, and Linda.meiden addresses this. Not only because it is almost International Women’s Day, but especially because it needs to change. Power women Geraldine Kemper, Tabitha, and Tatjana Almuli are on the cover and speak openly about their experiences.
In the new Linda.meiden, you can also read about slut-shaming and why a self-defense course is not a solution for harassment. A must-read.
