Why we should no longer pay attention to Dave Roelvink

I might immediately get criticism for the title, because yes: this is also giving attention to someone. But I really need to get this off my chest. Because it is common knowledge that Dave Roelvink is actually only famous because of his father, who is primarily famous for a yellow swimsuit. Moreover, he was quite a charming and innocent boy in the reality series De Roelvinkjes.

But that boy is now 26 and has long lost that innocence. That foolishness seems to have only increased and you understand: that is not really a good situation. He is now a DJ, which during the corona times is good for about zero performances per month. So the man has time on his hands and thought it was a good idea to go to the Museumplein in recent weeks.

You know, where thousands of people said they were having a ‘cup of coffee’ (because a demonstration was not allowed) and it escalated into gigantic riots, water cannons, and the riot police being called in. Believe me: it was no fun. I live next door and the atmosphere was particularly grim. What Dave Roelvink was doing there? No idea at all. Posting videos on Instagram where he calls himself “Davey the furious reporter” and where he just screams “LEIP” and “wajoooooo”. His contribution is therefore anything but informative. He doesn’t think so himself, by the way, because he immediately announced that he would be there again next time.

I have just one question: why? Is this seriously what you want to convey to your 613K followers? That those riots are funny, or cool, or that you are such a big shot that you are there? Because there is really nothing cool about it. What makes it even sadder is that you immediately take your video off Instagram (you should never have posted it in the first place) when legal action is threatened. On your part, it remains silent, but your father has to justify himself on the radio. His explanation was that Dave did it because so many followers were watching (that seems to be a valid argument), and that he can no longer control his son. I think of the girl and the video, of the wrecked Lamborghini in Amsterdam, of the confrontation with police officers.

Has there been any apology made in the meantime, or any substantive accountability given? I don’t believe so. That’s why I’m going to move on to ‘practice what you preach’: no more attention to be given.

Hopefully he will soon take a cue from brother Donny. Maybe I will write an ode to him someday. What a nice guy I think he is. And that in one family.
