Why you want to watch Lupin on Netflix

I actually think this is one of the coolest Netflix finds: one that suddenly appears online, gets talked about a lot, and actually doesn't need any PR; we as viewers take care of that ourselves. Word-of-mouth advertising works best anyway. And what also works really well, I've come to realize, are Netflix Originals. Because they have significantly boosted our Dutch-language series: I mention Undercover. That may have been a collaboration with a Belgian company, but from the moment Netflix got involved, the budget was multiplied tenfold and that is definitely noticeable.
Well, that's also the case with Lupin. French series starring Omar Sy, and maybe it's just me, but I like everything with him. Since Intouchables, he can't do any wrong in my eyes. In that respect, that's already a +1 for Lupin, but this series is also really well put together. Normally, I'm quite superficial when it comes to series that are not in English or Dutch, because I don't watch those, but I had to give this one a chance.
Lupin is thrilling and addictive, and the only downside is that I've already finished it. Omar Sy plays Assane Diop, whose great inspiration is Arsène Lupin. That doesn't mean much to us, or at least not to me, but in France, that's a well-known mastermind. A sort of Sherlock Holmes 3.0, some kind of master thief.
Assane's father was accused of stealing a valuable necklace 25 years ago, and he discovers that his father was actually innocent. As a result, he is determined to uncover the truth, and he will do anything for that. Oh yes, and in the meantime, he also has a teenage son to take care of.
Honestly: so much happens in this series that five episodes were actually just too few. It's too few because I simply wanted more. It's been a long time since I found a series this addictively good. Fortunately, that second season is a guarantee. You know the creators have confidence when they attach that to the last episodes. More episodes are on the way. AND QUICKLY A BIT.
