Why you want to watch Maid on Netflix today

Netflix series Maid
Yes, here is the big Netflix addict again, with of course a tip of the day. Because if you were wondering what I did yesterday (probably not, but I'm going to tell you anyway): absolutely nothing. Nothing even entirely voluntarily, by the way, because my big meowing friend was sick. And as a good cat mom, I pampered her on the couch. But okay, that was no punishment for me either, because now I have completely finished season 3 of YOU. And then it was time for something new.

And that became Maid, currently a little hit on Netflix. Well, actually quite a big hit, but everything pales in comparison to Squid Game right now. In this case, that's a shame, because Maid is one that you really want to see.

It is based on a true story (and that often piques my interest right away), about a single young mother trying to get by on her job as a cleaner. She managed to escape from a violent relationship, became homeless, and is mainly trying to give her daughter Maddy a better life than she herself had.

When you read this plot, you already know: this is going to be a tearjerker. And yes, that is partly true, but it is so well made and acted. Especially by the lead actress Margaret Qualley, of whom I have now become an intense fan. You really empathize with her, feel her despair, her loneliness, and her sadness. Fortunately, you also share in her beautiful moments, and it was precisely those that had me sobbing in front of the screen again.

And, if you like books: Maid is based on the autobiographical book Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay and a Mother’s Will to Survive (by Stephanie Land). And even though I love America, series like this continually astonish me at how bizarrely poorly things are arranged there. It's infuriating. So watch (and possibly read) it. With tissues at hand.
