What you need to know about me: I am a huge pizza lover. But really intense. I coincidentally share this love with my brother and so it is our mission to find the best pizza in Amsterdam. I can tell you: an endless quest. Because first, of course, all contenders need to be tested. And in the context of that quest, I had a new candidate yesterday that I took my brother to. There was just one catch for him: we were going to eat at Mastino V in De Pijp, Amsterdam and… All the pizzas there are vegan.

Now I would really like to say that I went there without prejudice, but that would be a lie. Because honestly: pizza is cheese. Pizza is meat. Pizza is especially just not vegan. So how are they going to pull that off there? When my brother saw the word vegan when he arrived, he became hesitant. But still, we had to put it to the test.

And we did, and how: we ordered the Big 4 (that is, four cheeses) with extra salami. Again: everything vegan. If they could replicate that well, then the rest must be good too, right?

Well, I can tell you; it was really incredibly delicious. The big favorite of the two of us (we also ordered The Calabrian One, which also received a solid pass). The blue cheese is made from tempeh, one type of mozzarella from lentils and the other from almonds. The salami was made from chickpeas, the owner told us. Sounds like a very exciting salad, but it was just an incredibly tasty pizza.

So, pizza lovers, whether you are vegan or not: try this spot in Amsterdam. They also deliver, in case you prefer to eat it on the couch. Bet that no one will notice if you keep that whole ‘vegan‘ secret?
