You need to know these 3 kitchen hacks from TikTok

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: you need to know these 3 kitchen hacks from TikTok.

So many fun kitchen hacks from TikTok came out this year. Of course, there were also videos that made you cringe, like the ones with the bugs crawling out of a fig... But there were also a lot of tips & tricks that were really handy. Like these:

We had already highlighted a few, but we think you should also see these hacks. Because haven't we all been in need of a good way to quickly remove the leaves from green herbs? Voilà:

Tearing herb leaves
We already knew the trick with the sieve, where you pull thyme sprigs through to tear off the leaves instead of trying to pluck them off one by one (takes a long time). But if you only have a very fine sieve or herbs with thicker stems like celery or parsley, it can also be done with a cheese grater. Super handy.

Making vegan ‘bacon’
For fans of plant-based food who don't necessarily want meat substitutes but crave something that somewhat resembles bacon, vegan TikTok star Tabitha Brown has two rather brilliant hacks: with marinated strips of carrot and rice paper, she makes oven strips that are a great salty smoky alternative to bacon. What you need for this is liquid smoke (a substance that resembles soy sauce and gives a very specific smoky aroma and flavor), maple syrup or honey, onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika powder. Make a marinade from that, coat the strips with it, and bake them in the oven or Airfryer. They become crispy!

Quesadillas from the toaster
Yes, melting cheese in your toaster is a bit exciting, but if the tortilla is big enough and you fold it well, you can make a super quick quesadilla this way. No pan needed, a crispy outside and delicious gooey melted cheese inside in no time: that's what you want, right? You can make it as richly filled or as simple (with just melted cheese) as you want, but do check the right folding technique.

And then there were of course the handy hacks we reported on earlier: how to degrease greasy Tupperware containers, how to remove those white bits from chicken breast and how to cut perfect cake slices. It remains a source of handy tips, that medium…
