To make yourself: Apple pie rolls

Apple turnover roll recipe

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: apple pie rolls to make yourself.

What a great idea: easy oven rolls with warm apple pie filling… yum! And don't worry if you don't have hours, because you can make this in just half an hour, without having to make dough yourself first.

INGREDIENTS
10 slices of white sandwich bread
2 apples
10 grams of flour
2 tsp ground cinnamon
150 g sugar
pinch of nutmeg
100 g butter, melted

The recipe originally came from Spend with Pennies, but the ready-made apple pie filling they recommend has been replaced by Kookfans with a quick fresh variant. (Although we must say: this is probably also very tasty with ready-made cherry pie filling...)

Here's how to make the easy apple pie rolls

  • Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  • Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes.
  • Mix the apple cubes with the flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 75 grams of the sugar, and the nutmeg. Set aside.
  • Cut the crusts off the bread and flatten the slices with a rolling pin.
  • In a small bowl, mix the remaining grams of sugar with a teaspoon of cinnamon.
  • In another small bowl, set the melted butter aside.
  • Scoop two tablespoons of the apple mixture along the length of a slice of bread. Then roll the slice of bread up into a roll, keeping the filling in the middle. Repeat with the rest of the bread and filling.
  • First dip the rolls in the bowl with melted butter and then in the bowl with cinnamon sugar.
  • Place the rolls seam side down in a baking dish lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown in the preheated oven.
  • Serve warm, with, for example, a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of crème fraîche beside it.
