We need to talk about Beyoncé's new song

Queen B is back. And we had to wait quite a while for that. The last we heard from her was the song Spirit, which ended up on the soundtrack of The Lion King. Then it went quiet for a while. Until last week. Suddenly, there it was in capital letters ‘Renaissance’ in her Instagram bio, her profile picture was removed, and yesterday that bio was changed again to ‘Break my soul’, the title of her new song that was released last night (American time). The comeback of Beyoncé was a fact.

Or well... In theory, it could have been great, if it weren't for the fact that ‘Break my soul’ is just really a terrible song. Yes, sorry, I can't make much more of it. Have we seriously waited years for this? What happened to those beautiful vocals she always treated us to? I mention ‘Listen’, ‘Irreplaceable’ or ‘Broken-hearted girl’. And if it wasn't going to be a ballad, then give us a new ‘Single Ladies’. A ‘Run The World’. Hello, a ‘Love On Top’. But this?

It actually starts off quite poorly, with a sort of stuck record featuring some very unpleasant screaming. But well, it's Queen B, so this has to turn out well. It actually reminds me the most of a very weak copy of ‘On The Floor’ by J.Lo, and that was already extremely bad.

You have those artists who waltz through every genre like a chameleon, going along with every trend. Ed Sheeran, for example. I guess that Beyoncé aimed for the current trend with this song, with singers like Dua Lipa at the top of the charts, but completely misses the mark.

Oh no, now she's starting to rap too. Aii, this is annoying. Is it not April Fool's Day? Or can we already be treated to a second single? This can't be the comeback we've been waiting so long for.

Only plus point: the lyrics are at least easy to remember if you want to sing along.
