Bargain: basement of 40m² in Amsterdam for 1.1 million

Yesss, I have another round of fun facts for you. Today: facts that are really true, even if you would seriously bet money on the contrary. In other words: my favorite category. For this, I of course consulted Reddit for hours again...

My goodness, can you really only cry about this? I really think I will never become a homeowner and will continue to rent a house until my death, because this is not possible. The housing market has gone a bit crazy in Amsterdam — that much was already clear — but this really takes the cake. I hope no one buys this. I really don't wish that for the seller. What possesses you to put this up for sale?

Here, I present to you: a basement of 40m² in De Baarsjes, Amsterdam. Price tag: 1.1 million plus costs. Not going well? I seriously thought I had landed on De Speld when I received this link, but no, it's really there.

And then you might think: for over a million it should be the most beautiful 40m² ever. I get it, I would think the same. At the very least a hot tub. King-size bed. With the biggest TV possible as a gift. Well... That's not really what you get in return. To put it mildly, this basement is a fixer-upper.

I really lost it over the description:

‘Unique object with cultural & historical value.

This is a “once in a lifetime”!’

Indeed a once in a lifetime, because after spending over a million on this, I would immediately die of starvation because I wouldn't have any money left.

But well, the text continues:

‘Exclusive with us in the sale. Former shelter. “Bunker”

Possibility for a change of use to residential.”

Excuse me? So I pay 1.1 million for a shelter and I'm not even allowed to live there? What are you thinking, Funda? That people pay 1.1 million for a vacation home in a former bunker?

‘Free of rent (ideal to use as a music studio)’

Personally, I think they are quite liberal with the word ‘ideal’, because nothing about this can be called ideal.

Is there anything positive to say about this gem? Yes, indeed. It has a reasonably large garden. You don't find that easily in Amsterdam. So yes, that is priceless.
