I watched Boo, Bitch so you don't have to.

It can freeze and it can thaw. And during my Netflix night yesterday, both were absolutely the case. A rollercoaster of emotions. I actually started watching Boo, Bitch and we really need to talk about that. The main (actually only) reason I started this was because of the lead actress Lana Condor, whom we all know from To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Those were of course delightful to watch (also because of Noah Centineo of course), so I had high hopes for this series.
Boo, Bitch is an eight-part miniseries made by Netflix, and I started it without having read a single word about it. That was mistake number one. In the first episode, I was reasonably into it: two girls in their final year who come to the conclusion that they have made absolutely zero impact and that they need to get something out of their final year while they still can. A conversation or date with that boy they've liked for ages, for example. Or not caring about the popular mean girl for once. Okay, nothing groundbreaking in terms of plotline, but you won't hear me complain about that.
What you will hear me complain about is that at the end of episode 1, our main character Erika (Lana Condor)... dies? What theee..? Erika and her best friend Gia see the body of the dead Erika (are we still following this?) lying under an elk that was hit by a car and has subsequently landed on Erika (Following. We. Still.?). The two ladies come to the conclusion surprisingly quickly that it’s not just Erika lying under that elk (not even pulling that beast off or anything), but also that the other Erika must be a ghost.
What I was totally unaware of is that the remaining seven episodes are about a girl who is not only a ghost but also has supernatural powers and becomes a very annoying girl as the series progresses. The creators are also the people behind the MTV series Awkward, so it has that vibe, except that the lead actress suddenly is a ghost. However, she can communicate with everyone and there is a huge emphasis on the fact that she can still pee.
I was genuinely confused by this series because on one hand, it comes across as a ‘normal’ series set in the real world, but on the other hand... is it about a ghost with special powers? An interesting choice by Netflix. Final verdict: binge or skip? Unfortunately, I would skip it. For me, there were just a bit too many bad jokes and I personally can't get over the fact that I have to keep my attention on a high school series about a dead girl with special powers. Turn this plot into a horror movie and I'm totally in.
