Bridget Jones moments that we all recognize

Today I started my journey back from Mexico. I had to take the boat from Isla Holbox, an island located in the Gulf of Mexico. It was quite windy and I had thought that a long white (Maria-like) dress would be suitable for this trip. Via a spiral staircase, I could go to the upper deck of the boat, where I wanted to enjoy the sun for a bit longer. Just before reaching the top, my dress suddenly flew up, allowing all the passengers on the lower deck to enjoy the view. Meanwhile, I was lifting two heavy bags, making it impossible to pull my dress down properly. Can it get any more Bridget Jones? Because I immediately thought of the infamous scene where she slides down the fire pole, but is totally let down by her mini skirt. Legendary moment indeed.
By the way, things like this happen in my life quite often where I can fully identify with this character. Don't we all feel like Bridget Jones regularly? She does symbolize a lot of women's lives. In the following Bridget Jones situations, you will undoubtedly recognize yourself.
1. Not being able to cook
Bridget Jones is quite clumsy and certainly cannot cook. Even when she really tries her best, she serves her friends a blue-colored soup. This happened to me recently when I wanted to serve a French stew for my friend, who then called it a German soup after one bite. I really put in my effort, but it just isn't in me.
2. Liking two people at the same time
We have all surely experienced this at some point. Very confusing; being in love with two people at the same time. Often it involves two completely different types: the reliable sweetheart you love and the sneaky seducer you just can't get out of your head. Story of our life.
3. Having a broken heart
Bridget Jones on the couch, under a blanket with a tub of Ben & Jerry's, in a gigantic pajamas. She is definitely the trendsetter of this infamous picture after a break-up. Because this is what we all prefer to do when we are heartbroken.
4. Drinking excessively and smoking cigarettes
Another typical Bridget Jones situation: sitting alone at home on the couch with a glass of red wine and a cigarette. Nothing wrong with that, it should be allowed. But when this happens just a bit too often, you really feel that strong association with Bridget.
5. Being awkward at social gatherings
Networking events, family gatherings, birthdays; actually just everything involving a lot of people I find quite an awkward affair. At such moments, I recognize myself in Bridget trying to impress someone at a company gala, but totally missing the mark with all her well-intended jokes. That's exactly how I feel when people don't immediately understand my sarcasm and I then have to explain myself further, making it worse.
6. Arriving overdressed at (themed) parties
Fortunately, it has never happened to me that I showed up somewhere in a bunny suit, because the theme of the party was canceled at the last minute. I take themed parties quite seriously, unlike many other people. Therefore, it has often happened to me that I was quite over the top during Halloween, because apparently, this is not such a thing in the Netherlands. Or that I was the only woman not dressed as a sexy police officer, but just as a scary zombie.
7. Unconditional support from your friends
Finally, the most positive recognizable point: Bridget Jones has the nicest friends who are always there for her. When things aren't going well, they are right at her door. They cheer on everything Bridget does (good or bad) and that's how it should be. I wish everyone such friends; I have them too.
