10 signs that your pet is extremely spoiled

I have felt a great love for animals since I was young. Since I was four years old, I have always had dogs, cats, and even rats (I can't think about that now) in my life, so I can't imagine a life without pets. They are the purest and sweetest beings that walk around, and the unconditional love they give you is unparalleled. It is quite easy to pamper your pet, as they deserve it. But what I didn't expect is that one day I would go so far. When I hear myself talking to my dog Sjaan in a motherly tone, I am always a bit shocked. Luckily, I don't buy clothes for her yet, but I sometimes consider Sjaan a bit too much as a human instead of a dog. But well, she lived on the street for two years, so I always justify it that way.

1. Your pet is allowed to sleep in your bed

I know: this is absolutely not hygienic and I shouldn't think about it too long, but it's just too cozy. After I found out what can happen when your dog sleeps with you in bed, I stopped for a little while. But then suddenly she was there again, with those soft ears and sweet eyes, and then there is of course no turning back.

2. Your pet is allowed at the table

I don't mean on its own chair, because I have certainly tried that and staying put is not an option, but I mean sitting on your lap while you are eating. You don't do this in restaurants, but at home it is just so nice to be able to dine with your pet.

3. Your pet goes everywhere with you

Your pet can perfectly sit home alone for a few hours, but you prefer to take your furry child everywhere with you. Otherwise, you find it too sad and are afraid that he/she will get bored. For dog people, this is of course easier than if you have a cat, but cat people also buy harnesses so their little one can safely go outside. By the way, you can definitely conclude that you have gone a bit overboard when you buy such a harness for your cat.

4. You buy excessively expensive products for your pet

All those ridiculous expensive purchases for your pet, such as sweaters, dog shampoo from Skins Cosmetics, woolen baskets, and so on. Everything you already know is excessive to buy, but still worth it. And just to continue with those cat harnesses: there is also a backpack to transport your cat, with a glass bubble where its head can look through. Believe me: you have an extremely spoiled cat if you transport him/her in this bag.

5. Your pet receives birthday and Christmas gifts

Every birthday must of course be celebrated. At my favorite pet store, they sell dog cupcakes and croissants, and they are not there for nothing. Also during Christmas, Sjaan gets special dog wreaths. As I said: I consider her a little mini-human.

6. Your pet is the first to be greeted when you come home

Not your loved one, but your pet is the first to be greeted. Now he/she is always faithfully waiting by the door, and therefore you take a moment for your pet first. Only then do you say hello to the rest of the house.

7. You find giving kibble sad

Food that is meant for animals, you actually don't find suitable for your own pet. You eat the tastiest meals yourself, so you can't possibly give your furry child a bowl of dry kibble, can you? Giving kibble comes with a great sense of guilt, and often you only give away a portion of your own meal.

8. You can't move when your pet falls asleep next to you

As soon as I notice that Sjaan is sleeping comfortably next to me, I don't move. Even if I need to pee or am hungry, I can't bear the thought of waking Sjaan from her princess sleep. Actually, I prefer to cancel all my plans immediately to stay lying on the couch together.

9. Your pet is a full-fledged sender in your messages

When you write someone a card or a lengthy message, you always send greetings from your pet. Conversely, we also receive mail at home with ‘Sjaan’ written on it. And my friends always send a ‘kiss to Sjaan’. More than justified, of course.

10. Facetime with your pet

From Mexico, I facetime with my boyfriend almost daily, which is very nice, but secretly I just want to see Sjaan. The only unfortunate thing is that she never seems to hear me, even if I shout her name loudly through the phone, she doesn't look up or around. Maybe she enjoys the peace without me and pretends.
