People say: ‘we don't talk enough about this strange event’

As you may already know, I love a good conspiracy theory every now and then. Did Jeffrey Epstein really commit suicide? Of course not, he had some help with that. Is Tom Cruise secretly one of the highest-ranking members of the Church of Scientology? Oh, absolutely. Yep, there are quite a few rabbit holes I regularly fall into on the internet. Especially on Reddit, where I came across the topic this week with the question: ‘What strange events have gotten swept under the rug like they didn’t even happen?’ The answers were mega interesting, like the one below.
1. ‘There was a big scandal in England about the placement of foster children. Care workers were paid more for each child they placed in a foster home. This resulted in hundreds, maybe even thousands, of children being placed in foster care when it wasn’t necessary at all. To this day, nothing has really come out about it. Unless you have personal experience with it (like I do), the chance that you know anything about it is very small.’
2. ‘Everything surrounding the astronomical amount that was wrongly given as COVID support to companies that will never pay it back is something that is being minimally investigated.’
3. ‘Equifax (a credit bureau) lost the personal data of about every adult in the United States. This is data that they initially obtained without permission, but which they did collect. They are still operational. This was in September 2017, when Equifax announced that there had been a data breach involving the data of 147 million people being exposed.’
4. ‘The wife of David Miscavige, the leader of the Church of Scientology, has not been seen since August 2007. She was reported missing to the police, but they ultimately did very little about it. No one has had any contact with her since then. ‘In my country Turkey, 128 trillion dollars have gone missing. It was talked about for about three months and now no one mentions it anymore.’.’
5. ‘The mysterious neurological disease that only occurs in New Brunswick was first identified in 2019. The symptoms resemble those of mad cow disease, but it is not caused by a prion; they do not know what causes it. So far, 50 people have been infected and 6 have died, the youngest being 18 years old.’
6. ‘Verizon and AT&T received a huge amount of money (from our tax money) to build a fiber optic internet connection across America. They cashed the money and then did nothing, but no one seems to care.’
7. ‘Rapper T.I. and his wife have drugged and raped over 30 victims, if we are to believe the over 30 charges. If you Google his name, it doesn’t even come up, unless you search for it specifically.’
8. ‘This might be a lighter example: after Madonna and Britney Spears kissed at the MTV Music Awards, Beyoncé made a number of comments that were quite homophobic at the time (she brought her religion into it, which she said explains why she didn’t think it was okay). Virtually everything from these statements has been erased from the internet and it is very difficult to find the details of it. Her PR team really worked overtime on this.’
9. ‘2 women are walking down the street talking to each other’
