5x why we love Gisou

Years ago, a very large swarm of bees buzzed around the window of my friend's apartment. Because this was secretly quite annoying, they called in a specialist to do something about it, but at that moment, mouths fell open in amazement. There weren't just a few, there were hun-dreds building a large nest against the wall. This was unique in the middle of the city, so many beekeepers and nature conservationists came by to see this phenomenon. Since then, I have become more aware of how important bees are in our lives and I actually find them anything but annoying.

We all know the brand Gisou and the super beautiful Negin Mirsaheli with the most beautiful hair, right? If there is a brand that has made something super cool and interesting out of the importance of bees and the somewhat unknown but oh so important task of a beekeeper, then it is Gisou, Negin's brand. Negin's family has been beekeeping for six generations and does not let ‘World Bee Day’ pass by unnoticed. They are opening a pop-up store from May 19 to May 22 at Prinsengracht 455, where flowers, honey, and hair care come together in one place. And not only that: you also see a piece of history of the Mirsalehi family and the important role they have as beekeepers in maintaining the health of a bee colony. They want to inspire a new generation with this and raise awareness about the importance of healthy bees. Because bees are not only there for the delicious honey (which you can now find exclusively in the store), but also for many other important things such as:
1. Besides honey, much more food
When bees are looking for nectar, they carry pollen with them and thereby pollinate other flowers and plants. And I'm not talking about a ‘few’ flowers, but about 75 percent of the fruit and vegetables depend on this pollination. Crazy, right?
2. Important for other animals
Besides our own food, they also pollinate other food such as wild plants in nature, which wild animals depend on.
3. The quality and taste of food
Pollination is not only for growth; it also ensures that your apples, pears, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, and oranges, as well as zucchinis, avocados, and peppers taste even better. Your daily cup of coffee or those delicious fries on Saturday night fried in sunflower oil would not have been possible without bees either.
4. They inform us
Bees may not be able to talk to us, but they function perfectly when something is wrong with our environment. Due to climate change, bees are experiencing more and more ‘stress’, and if something in nature is not going as it should, this is immediately visible in the health of a bee. They are very sensitive to this. The beekeeper plays an important role here, because if things are not going well, they can help the bees. They do this by feeding them or even moving their home to another, better place. We can also contribute to the global bee problem by planting flowers in your garden, on your balcony, or somewhere in nature.
In the pop-up store, you now receive free flower seeds with every purchase to help the bees. A super small effort, and nature does the work. Just for that, you should definitely take a look in the Bee Season Gisou store. The weather will be nice this weekend, so be sure to stop by and believe me: if it’s a bit busy and you have to wait in line, it is absolutely worth it.
