Heterosexual men are experiencing difficulties with dating for the first time ever

couple that is on a date

Dating was for heterosexual men apparently almost always a painless process, until now. Don't get me wrong, I wish everyone a dating life without suffering, although I had to chuckle a bit at the reason why heterosexual men are having such a hard time for the first time. Just because this should simply be normal.

First, some facts and figures: no less than 62 percent of people on dating sites are men. Of these, the majority are heterosexual and looking for a woman. The supply in the apps seems to be so overwhelmingly large that heterosexual women feel a little overwhelmed. The result: men have to work hard to get a date. It seems especially to be the case that younger middle-aged men are having a tough time. Not only in getting a relationship but also because they don't have one. According to research, heterosexual men are happier when they are in a relationship.

How does this difficult dating come about? Women are raising the bar for a relationship higher and higher, as can be read in Psychology Today. They want a partner who is emotionally available and communicatively skilled. They also find it important that they share the same norms and values. You would think that this should be the basis of a normal relationship, which it is now becoming. The unfortunate thing for some heterosexual men is that they apparently did not receive this from home, according to Psychology Today, resulting in a large gap between desire and supply. Enter: men who have a hard time dating and have to work hard to enter into an equal relationship.

I must confess that I find it somewhat refreshing. Aside from the occasional Tinder marriage, apps are still often scoured for some casual entertainment, under the false pretense of ‘looking for a relationship.’ The more difficult dating landscape can therefore also bring about change, resulting in: more enjoyable matches, equal relationships, and a usual mindset among men for the year 2022. Although I suspect that this has also been in development for a while, so it will surely be fine with the tough dating life of the heterosexual man.

Small disclaimer: this research was conducted among heterosexual men. It is therefore not known how it is with the rest of us. A bit of the same principle as that medications are not made for women.
