Married At First Sight USA is back on Videoland

Last night I really enjoyed lying on the couch. And that while I was initially quite skeptical about it. You know how it is: a bit of restlessness in your head, the whole evening still ahead of you, boredom starts to creep in — I experience that almost every evening. But not yesterday, because then I turned on Videoland and tadaaa: there it was: a brand new season of Married At First Sight USA. Okay, okay, it's not as fun as the Australian version (which by the way starts again on the 31st), but it's definitely a start.

The concept is almost the same, so that's definitely a big plus. The weddings are just a lot more sober and to be honest, it made me a bit sad. Sure, it's corona, there's a pandemic going on, that kind of stuff, but they could have put a bit more love into those events. Especially the wedding night is really heartbreaking: it's in a hotel room that many Ibis hotels would be jealous of. And then several couples say: ‘Oh my god, it’s PERFECT.’ Eh, whut?

Maybe there's something in that Australian water why I ultimately find that version the most fun, but if you mainly love drama, then this American version is really just for you. Keep an eye on Chris and Paige, because especially the former is quite problematic. And you dive right in, because they rush through the weddings at a breakneck speed (although I do understand that); in episode 4 they all go on honeymoon together. Yes, you read that right: the whole group goes to the same destination. Really a super romantic location too. They are going to...

Las Vegas. Yes, the production of this MAFS has spared neither money nor effort. They fly from Atlanta (where this season takes place) to the gambling paradise, which is a flight of three hours. But well, it doesn't matter: these creators want drama and they get it.

So yes, now you know what you want to watch tonight. I binge-watched a few episodes in one evening (and the first episode alone lasts two hours); it's a great warm-up for the Australian season. I'm really looking forward to that.
