Oh yes: mini Bastogne cookies are now on the shelves

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: mini Bastogne cookies are now on the shelves.
For the base of your cheesecake or Monchou cake Bastogne cookies are indispensable. You could say that the candy biscuit has become one of the most well-known in the cookie aisle. But did you know that you can now also buy a mini version of the classic?
Bastogne cookies are actually an invention of the Belgian baker Paul Parein. In 1952, he created the cookies made from wheat flour, sugar, candy syrup, egg, butter, and cinnamon, naming them after the city of Bastogne, or Bastenaken in Flemish. The relatively hard cookie with a rocky structure reminded Parein of the rugged hills of the Ardennes. Fun fact, right? Learned something new. Well, now let's talk about those mini cookies.
Bake or pack?
They are exactly the same in taste and crunchiness as the large variant. From now on, you can plop down on the couch with a bowl instead of a pack of Bastogne. Eating them straight? Always good. But baking with them is of course still an option. So off to the nearest supermarket to stock up on a few packs of Bastogne minis !
