3 original romantic movies for your Valentine's weekend

valentine's movies

I don't think any of us are particularly charmed by a man waiting naked in bed with a rose between his teeth, are we? Maybe it's my choice of men, but I've never loved anyone who felt the need to scatter rose petals around the bed. I've only received a Valentine's gift once, and that was really just because that person felt they were losing me. Anyway, I'm not the type who is extremely romantic with powdered sugar sprinkled on top, but a little swooning and sniffing at a romantic movie, sure, you can wake me up for that.

On Vogue.com, I saw a delightful selection of original films that all have romance as a common denominator. Here they come.

1. The incredible Jesse James
She is newly single, but still broken and bruised, and is sent on a blind date with a divorced man. Everything goes wrong, much is misinterpreted, but overall, according to Vogue, which I believe, it's funny and captivating. And it takes place in New York and is delightfully raw (‘Do you only have one vibrator?’).

2. Always Be My Maybe
She is a famous chef and had a fling with him fifteen years ago. When she suddenly starts a restaurant in San Francisco and meets him again, they both think: maybe it’s meant to be. Delightful luxury background of beautiful parties, cool restaurants, and a lot of love.

3. Someone Great
Another person leaving New York for San Francisco, only her love doesn't want to join her on the adventure. To wrap up the New York chapter, she goes all out with her friends for a New York party weekend. I already love scenes where the main character drops her phone in the toilet out of fear that her friends will discover she's texting ‘him’ and that she's drinking mimosa (champagne with orange juice) while pretending to drink green juices.

All available on Netflix and just a bit rawer, layered, and more current than You've Got Mail (although I still find that delightful).
