The Netherlands holds the record for the largest cheese platter

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: The Netherlands holds the record for the largest cheese platter.
We love a well-filled cheese platter. Those creamy, runny cheeses, blue mold cheeses, and those fresh goat cheeses: delicious! Added benefit: eating cheese keeps you smart and makes you live longer; no wonder that it is super addictive , right? We were also incredibly excited about this largest cheese platter in the world.
Since this weekend, the Dutch city of Woerden has claimed the world record for the largest cheese platter in the world. The old record from four years ago – when an American city took the honor – has been thoroughly broken.
175 different types of cheese
The Woerden cheese platter was an astonishing 13 meters long, filled with 175 different types of cheese (!) stacked up to a meter high and together weighed about 2,716 kilograms. A hefty platter, from which the residents of Woerden have been able to taste generously.
The initiative for the gigantic cheese platter comes from the Agrarisch Centrum Woerden. Cees Verburg from Verburg Kaas is one of the cheese sellers who has quietly helped with the preparations over the past six weeks. ‘It was a hell of a job, but totally worth it,’ Cees tells the AD.
Cheese platter city #1
The goal was to showcase what the city of Woerden has to offer in terms of cheese, and this has been particularly successful. With such large quantities of cheese, some was inevitably left over, but that has been donated to the Food Bank. The record officially confirmed by The Guinness Book of Records puts Woerden on the map worldwide as cheese platter city number 1; a world achievement!
