Are you fed up with your job? 7 remarkable tips to make your job more enjoyable

Adeline at work

Secretly not wanting to come back from vacation? Dragging yourself to work on Monday with no less than 100 trams? Diving into the copy room in the hallway at the sight of your manager? And does that one meeting really have to be today? Sometimes you might feel a little less enthusiastic about your job than usual, but luckily that's easy to fix.

Of course, it's an option to hang your job immediately on the nearest available willow and do something else. I would advise you to do that if you feel non-stop depressed and it never goes away. But it can also be a little less drastic.

1. What (or who) is your problem?
Find out who or what makes your work less enjoyable. If you know what your problem is, it becomes much easier to solve. Having a conversation with that unreachable manager or giving that one extra task back to your colleague: it can already help.

2. Care a little less about others
It's often the colleagues who make or break your day. By caring a little less about them, your day becomes a lot more enjoyable. Take control of your own day instead of letting it depend on a colleague's mood.

3. Go to bed on time
A good tip from SoChicken: a well-rested person can handle much more and has a much more positive outlook on life. That job seems a little less annoying with a few extra hours of sleep.

4. Forge a plan
It sounds cliché, but without a goal, you have no idea where to go. If you just diligently complete your tasks every day without a view, you will get bored to death. I'm just saying how it is. Make a campaign plan for where you want to go in this job. Is it that promotion? Is it self-development? Is it a stepping stone to your dream job? Write it down.

5. Make yourself useful
That sounds almost like you're usually just slacking off, but that's not what I mean. There is little as deadly for your job happiness as not feeling useful. The moment you matter, your work becomes easier and therefore much more needed.

6. Learn a little more
Of course, you need a goal, but don't forget the journey along the way. Your work environment is the place to put all your insights into practice. Practice in awkward conversations, vary your attitude towards colleagues, and try those focus hours in practice. It's one big learning school.

7. Take time off
Are you at your limit? Book a vacation or take an extra day off. On that day, don't message colleagues, keep the mailbox closed, and don't work for just another hour. Taking time off ultimately ensures that you enjoy your work more. How simple can it be?
