Science says: women have a better memory than men

My boyfriend always says during arguments that I have a ‘creepy’ memory. I usually get this remark thrown at me when I feel the need to revisit a conflict from 2018, where I can recount in detail what exactly happened and where it went wrong. In some cases, an old screenshot is also thrown on the table to further substantiate the matter. Very exhausting, of course, and he is certainly right about that memory: I have an excellent memory. I feel that all women actually have a sort of photographic memory. My girlfriends certainly do, but perhaps I have gathered creeps around me. Moreover, my male friends also regularly complain about the fact that their girlfriend NEVER forgets anything. Well, the female memory; call it our superpower.
Well, it turns out I am on the right track. Scientists from the RIVM and VU Amsterdam state that women's memory is better than men's. For over twenty years, the scientists researched the difference in memory between men and women. It turns out that women actually have a better memory than men. They also process information faster than men. After studying the memory of thousands of people aged 45 and older, the researchers concluded that the differences are particularly significant in middle age and that women at this age clearly benefit more from the functioning of their brain. A better memory AND being able to process information faster, that's a nice outcome.
Unfortunately, I also have to share a less favorable outcome with you: the research also revealed that these brain functions decline more quickly in women than in men over the years. From a certain age, women have more difficulty performing tasks that are complex for the brain than men. As a result, more women in the Netherlands (and worldwide) suffer from age-related dementia than men on average.
Well, great. We have had a lead over men for years and then we suddenly decline faster. So let's make the most of it for as long as possible and use this advantage extra often.
