these 5 standard breakfasts are really bad for you

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: these 5 standard breakfasts are really bad for you.
Breakfast, whether you do it or not, everyone can think of some choices that are wiser than others. Where I sometimes see young people at a bus stop downing an energy drink and a cigarette (I assume as breakfast, as the whole grain aspect usually isn't present), I prefer to eat a leftover from yesterday a bit later in the morning. But hey, to each their own! Although there are quite a few ’standard‘ breakfast products that are advised against by nutritionists.
Some of these things are very popular, but according to some dietitians, consuming them on a very regular basis can shorten your life.
Sugary breakfast cereals
Easy and quick, certainly, but if you make it a daily habit to fill your bowl with Frosties or something similar in the morning, then according to dietitian Courtney D’Angelo, you might be taking some time off your lifespan. Lots of sugar and little protein will cause your blood sugar levels to spike quickly and then crash, just like you will. You'll get hungry again sooner than after a fiber-rich breakfast with less sugar, and it also increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease, she says.
Breakfast bacon
Yes, unfortunately, indeed, but you really should consider crispy bacon as something you can eat only very occasionally, because just like with processed meats, regular consumption of this has been proven to be bad for you. Additives like nitrite are also bad for your microbiome, and a healthy gut plays an important role in your overall health, according to D’Angelo.
Sweet pastries, muffins, and donuts
Treating yourself occasionally to a cronut or an almond croissant or a really thick muffin is incredibly festive. But you shouldn't make a habit of it. They are generally hefty calorie bombs with a lot of sugar. We also don't really know why you would want to eat a donut every day, but D’Angelo's advice and comments here are the same as with the sweet cereals. It will only make you crave more, meanwhile you've stuffed yourself with sugars and fats and you're just waiting for the inevitable sugar crash afterwards.
Sausages
In the Netherlands, there may not really be a ‘sausages for breakfast’ culture. Unlike, for example, a Full English Breakfast, breakfast sausages are also popular in America. But let's be honest: do you always head straight for the sausages at a breakfast buffet? You need to be careful not to do this too often if you travel regularly. Dietitian Kimberly Duffy explains that this is often highly processed meat that can increase the risk of cancer. It also contains a lot of salt and saturated fats, which increases the risk of obesity and cardiovascular diseases.
Sweet coffee drinks
Not really food, but you'd think it's more of a dessert than a breakfast. The crazy creations you can order at Starbucks and other chains to then sit down and spoon and sip a towering whipped cream-caramel-chocolate syrup mess are not really good breakfast options. A cup of coffee, preferably without sugar and milk for health reasons, doesn't have to be bad for you at all. But the extreme amounts of sugar in these kinds of drinks, you can't start your day healthily with that. You increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, says expert Dana Hunnes, as well as the inflammatory markers in your body.
