14 things we miss from our teenage room

What were our teenage rooms actually cozy, right? They were often packed with all sorts of funny little things, decorations, and collections. Actually, our bedroom used to be a kind of studio, everything you needed was just there. And besides, it was the coziest place ever. I often long back to that atmospheric little room. Especially the following items I would love to breathe new life into.
1. The mosquito net above your bed
Not because of the mosquitoes, but just because it was so beautiful. A bed with a mosquito net, that was a bed for princesses. I used to have one that my mother made herself, light blue with pink roses. I still regret not keeping it, I would hang it up again in a heartbeat.
2. A lava lamp
The lava lamp certainly could not be missing in your teenage room. You could watch it for hours, it was addictive. I checked if they still sell lava lamps and I have good news for those who want to buy such a beautiful specimen again: they are available online for less than twenty euros. And they have much more choice than before. I say go for it.
3. The disco ball
That small black disco ball with colored lights, that was really a hit. With the help of this ball, it was possible to transform your room into a disco in no time. Kids top 20 CD on your radio and go.
4. A loft bed
We all had the loft bed period. And you didn't have this to save space, no no, you had this because it was cool. With the loft bed, you had more privacy, as your parents didn't come up there so quickly. It was the perfect place to collect candies or pocket money.
5. A desk plus desk chair
We all had the serious office corner in our room, for when we really had to work ‘hard’. Of course, we rarely sat there, but it always looked neat. With a matching desk chair that you could adjust and matching accessories like pen holders and staplers. I would love to have such a desk corner again.
6. Posters
Of course, you tore these posters out of Tina or Hitkrant. It started with posters of dogs and the cast of GTST, later during my Twilight phase these were exchanged for posters of Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. After seeing the latest Batman, I would love to have a new poster of Robert.
7. A flashlight
We all had this gadget in our bed: the flashlight. Of course, there was also a nightlight in our room, but it was much more fun to go to the bathroom at night with the flashlight.
8. The radio with CD player
The radio including CD player certainly could not be missing in our teenage room. This radio was often on a shelf, next to your gigantic collection of CDs.
9. A dressing mirror or vanity table
In my old room, there was an old-fashioned vanity table, which I absolutely never used to put on makeup. I didn't even wear makeup, but it was still very grown-up to have a corner in your room where your Carmen curling set stood and your nail polishes lay.
10. A lot of decorative cushions
On your bed lay hundreds of decorative cushions. Every evening before going to sleep, it was quite a task to clear your bed. But how cozy was this? Especially those fluffy cushions in pink and red from IKEA, they were very trendy.
11. A bulletin board or magnetic board
Don't ask me why, but this used to hang in my room. I had exactly nothing to do and never a to-do list, but still, such a board was handy for postcards or photos. This board would really come in handy again, because all those endless to-do lists in my notes, I don't even look at anymore.
12. Wires with lights
This was actually a kind of Christmas lights, which you hung around your bed or on your door. Sometimes with butterflies or flowers. So sweet and atmospheric again, why did we stop doing that?
13. A safe
Suddenly, you needed a safe from one day to the next. For ‘all’ your pocket money and other secret stuff. I used to have a safe with a code lock, where I kept my money and the key to my diary. It was absolutely not the intention for your parents to have access to such valuable stuff.
14. A collection of anything
Every teenage phase came with a collection. You had a special shelf in your room for this. Sometimes there were shells and fossils on that shelf, then again Scooby-Doo strings or an extensive Diddl collection. This was the centerpiece of your room.
