The things I want to do as soon as I retire

I really have the idea that the existence of a retiree is amazing. Of course, life doesn't only start after your retirement, but you suddenly have seas of time to do whatever you want. That's quite a nice prospect, isn't it?

The dreams on my retiree bucket list are already piling up. Below, I will share with you what is on it so far.

Moving to South France
My biggest dream? Moving to South France, preferably to Ramatuelle, a place where I used to go a lot with my parents. I would love to buy an old house and renovate it from top to bottom. No idea if my beloved is also waiting for that, but the idea is romantic, right? With a large garden, a Green Egg, lots of animals, and of course a swimming pond.

Setting up a B&B
In that gigantic house in South France, there is surely enough space for a bed & breakfast. During the summer months, I will rent out a room or three to lovebirds, whom I will pamper every morning with delicious breakfasts and cups of coffee. In the evenings, we will enjoy delicious dishes made with fresh ingredients from the garden outside together. Oh yes, did I already mention that I also want to garden? Very curious how that will turn out.

Becoming a chef
To serve the guests food, I obviously need to be able to cook a little. After my retirement, I will naturally learn to bake and roast really well. After all, I will have plenty of time to rewatch all seasons of MasterChef and take cooking classes. I already love cooking a lot now, but I often feel that I am ‘too busy’ for it. Fortunately, that will no longer be the case by then.

Having lots of animals
I just mentioned it: that house naturally comes with a large menagerie. Dogs, cats, little pigs, and of course chickens for fresh eggs. Should I also start a pet boarding service next to the B&B? Then people going on vacation can drop their pet off with me, I actually think that's a pretty good idea.

Buying a camper or van
Okay, I would like to see more than just South France, and that's why I want a cozy little Volkswagen van or a camper to tour around with my beloved. We will probably drive each other crazy after three days in such a small space, but we also don't have to be away for months, after all, we can't leave all our animals behind for that long.

Learning to play an instrument
My parents never forced me to do anything, so I never had to play an instrument. As a little girl, I was very happy about that, but in hindsight, I do find it a bit of a shame that I can't read a single note. During the first lockdown, I took piano lessons for a month, but that didn't really make a difference. During my retirement, I will continue playing the piano and I will also pick up the violin, after all, I will have all the time in the world.

Never exercising again
At most, I will go golfing once a month with my retired buddies, but I really won't be doing any intense sports by then. I will mainly enjoy, eat and drink a lot, and do absolutely nothing that doesn't make me happy. Okay, maybe do some laps in my swimming pond.
