This is the solution for an afternoon slump

woman with an afternoon slump

Thank goodness corona no longer has such a drastic impact on our lives, but working from home has become a permanent situation for many people. According to experts, this makes people work more efficiently and makes them happier. I personally also quite enjoy a morning at the kitchen table behind my laptop, in my Japanese kimono and with a fresh cup of homemade coffee. Starting the day calmly with a messy hairstyle; nothing I find more pleasant than that.

But despite the advantages of working from home, there is one little thing I often run into in the afternoon: the infamous afternoon slump, around three o'clock. We probably all know this low point. You've been working hard for hours and suddenly the coffee wears off and you crash. Your colleagues are not there to pull you out of it, so you really have to endure that slump alone.

When you work from home, there are two options at such a moment: gulp down yet another cup of coffee or take a power nap. I usually opt for option number one, because I have a fear of afternoon naps. I think I'm always afraid that I'll suddenly wake up late in the evening.

But now I have discovered something new that seems to be the solution to that afternoon slump. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: the caffeine nap. As you might guess, this remedy combines a power nap with coffee. I think for many this already sounds like a dream. How does it work? Well, it's actually very simple: you first drink a cup of coffee and then take a twenty-minute power nap.

I know: this sounds quite contradictory, but according to experts it really works. Here's how it goes: it takes about thirty minutes for the effects of caffeine to start working. So when you take your power nap immediately after drinking your coffee, you wake up just as the coffee starts to kick in. So you wake up with extra energy, thanks to your nap and the caffeine. Isn't that fantastic? What an invention, it's a shame I never thought of this myself.

Finally, I have good news for those who are already worried about those twenty minutes in which they think they have to sleep: that is not necessary at all. Even if you only half fall asleep during your caffeine nap, both the power nap and the coffee have a positive effect on your body.

Well, I am convinced, especially since you will most likely not sleep through your alarm because of the coffee. By the way, setting an alarm is generally advisable. So do you also struggle with that afternoon slump? Then try taking a nice caffeine nap in the afternoon. Guaranteed success.
