This is why TikTokers take a shot of olive oil en masse in the morning

My morning routine currently consists only of drinking a glass of water. This way I immediately replenish my fluid deficiency and I especially have the feeling that I start my day ‘extremely healthy’. But if I am to believe the health gurus on TikTok, I should actually also take a shot of olive oil alongside my glass of water. Preferably with a bit of lemon juice added.
Why do TikTokers drink this en masse in the morning? According to many, it would lead to a more even skin tone, smooth bowel movements, and even weight loss. Apparently, this is really a thing, because I see it coming up a lot now. TikTokers claim that this drink on an empty stomach brings a lot of health benefits. But is that really true?
According to the medical website Healthline, there are indeed several benefits to olive oil and lemon juice. Olive oil contains anti-inflammatory properties and supports the growth of healthy bacteria and is good for brain function. It also contains substances that can help alternate healthy gut bacteria and reduce harmful bacteria. Moreover, lemon juice also has anti-inflammatory effects and is rich in antioxidants. In that respect, these two ingredients indeed seem to be a golden combination. By the way, the claims about weight loss have never been scientifically proven.
Well, I still believe that I prefer to get those health benefits from olive oil and lemon through dishes. In terms of taste, it doesn't seem like a pleasure to shoot this early in the morning. For now, I will just stick to my glass of water.
