Global remedies for a hangover 2.0

Hopefully you all had a wonderful Friday evening and are now lying on the couch or even still in bed like a bunch of hungover messes. Last week I already shared a number of worldly remedies with you to combat that miserable hangover. From Korean cat soup to pickle juice from Poland; there were quite a few special hangover cures among them. I myself went to the ‘banya’ last weekend, or in other words: the Russian advice to take a sauna on your hungover day. I must say: I indeed felt like myself again afterwards.

To give you some more inspiration today to get over your hangover, I hereby share even more international tips and tricks. Hang in there today.

Peru
Peru is known for its ceviche. Ceviche is raw fish that is cooked in the acids of lemon and often prepared with onion, peppers, and coriander. After making and eating this dish, there is liquid left over that is called ‘leche de tigre’. This so-called tiger milk is said to be the remedy for a hangover. Coriander and red pepper contain detoxifying properties and lemon is of course full of vitamin C. So it's the ideal hangover medicine.

Estonia
This is the funniest remedy I have come across so far. In Estonia, vodka is not only used for drinking, but also for soaking your socks. The latter apparently works against a hangover. Let me explain: after a night out, you soak your socks in vodka, then put them on and go to sleep. This sock trick ensures that more blood can flow to your feet, which stimulates blood circulation and reduces symptoms of illness. Well, it doesn't sound entirely logical, but anything to get rid of that hangover, right? And if you're completely drunk, you'll probably still have fun giving your socks a vodka bath.

Indonesia
In Indonesia, after a wild night, they drink a brew of strong coffee, condensed milk, and on top of that, an egg. It all sounded very good until the word ‘egg’ came up. A fried egg on your hungover day with a cup of coffee sounds quite appealing, but this combination? I'm not so sure yet, but who knows, it might work wonders.

America
The shot called Prairie Oyster is drunk by Americans on the morning after. And no, there is no oyster in this shot. So what is in it? A raw egg, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco. Yuck. I'm skipping this one myself, but I would love to hear from you if it works.

Puerto Rico
In Puerto Rico, they prefer to prevent a hangover rather than cure it. Now, that's something we're curious about. What do we need to do for this? Before we go out, we rub our armpits with lemon to prevent dehydration. Additionally, the lemon juice helps to balance the body's pH level and replenishes the vitamin C deficiency. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's swap that deodorant roller for lemon tonight, and hopefully, we'll wake up hangover-free tomorrow.

South Africa
In South Africa, they don't eat an omelet made from chicken eggs during their hangover breakfast, but from ostrich eggs. These eggs are full of magnesium, fiber, and iron and are many times larger than our sad little eggs. With one ostrich egg, you can make a gigantic omelet for multiple people. How nice is that?
