All tips for Grasse, Côte d’Azur

Travel guide Grasse Côte d'Azure

Recently, I took a road trip through the Côte d’Azur and it was really delightful. Before this, I had only been to Nice (and a day in Monaco), which I thought was really amazing, so the expectations were high. And they were completely met, because this region really impressed me. So beautiful, but also so wonderfully bourgondian; the nicest terraces with that delicious rosé from the region and I ate well all week. I can tell you: that doesn't happen often.

The best food I might have eaten was in Grasse. We weren't there long, but luckily we had enough time to explore the village a bit and thus visit a lovely restaurant. Curious which one it is? I’ll share all the tips with you.

Fun things to do in Grasse

– When in Grasse… Of course, you have to visit a perfumery. That's what the city is known for. I must honestly admit that I wasn't entirely sure if I would enjoy it, but I have to take that back. It’s really fun and interesting; I also made my own perfume (not a success) and bought perfume from this perfumery (big success). I visited Fragonard, which is also a really nice brand. I couldn't resist the hand creams either, and I can recommend those; they smell so good.

Tip: restaurants in Grasse

Auberge du Vieux Château
Yes, this is my absolute best tip: you should really go to Grasse just for this restaurant. Truly a beautiful view (both during the day and in the evening with all the lights), very attentive service and that food… Definitely go for all the courses, because you won’t regret it. And if they still have the ’L’intense chocolat caramel noisette vanille, glace onctueuse au parfum breton‘ on the dessert menu: TAKE IT. Best. Dessert. Ever.

La Bastide Saint Antoine
This spot also has such a wonderfully nice terrace. And such a beautiful view. Especially for lunch (or even breakfast), I would really recommend this, because this spot breathes Côte d’Azur. Such a lovely summery atmosphere, with sun and of course a rosé on the side, because it’s vacation.

La Fleur de Lys
If the weather is a bit less and you prefer to sit inside, reserve a spot here. Inside, it’s really cozy. The terrace is also partially covered, so you can sit there even in less favorable weather. And definitely order the truffle tagliatelle. Or just go for the tasting menu if you’re there anyway.

Where to sleep in Grasse

Auberge du Vieux Château
Yes, ideal. That nice restaurant also has hotel rooms. It’s very popular, so book well in advance or fingers crossed that you get lucky and there’s still a spot available.

Best Western PLUS Elixer Grasse
A bit kinder to the wallet, but really more than fine; they have a gigantic swimming pool here and that is really a blessing during the scorching heat I experienced there.
