bapao buns

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: If you love bapao buns, you have to try these.

Eke Bosman, better known as an Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, who as a baby had his first frikandel, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1500 burgers in his life, suspects that there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. Today you will read his verdict on Kadir’s bapao and Snackspert will give his opinion on the cheese twister from Lidl.

Kadir’s bapao

bapao

One bapao is different from another. Many bapao found in supermarkets look very much alike. The bapao from the Lidl freezer is an exception, but all other private labels are pretty much the same: fine, nothing more, nothing less. But Albert Heijn recently has Kadir's: chicken and beef. And you won't believe it, but these are a lot tastier than the average supermarket bapao. Unfortunately, they are not as well filled as the fresh bapao you get at the toko, which is obviously a big downside, but they are much spicier. At last! With the addition of coconut, both the chicken and beef bapao get a sort of curry-like flavor that makes you say YUM. That's how you do it. That's why I'm still happy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cheese twister from Lidl

cheese twister

You may remember that I once gave the cheese twister from Lidl five stars because it is really exceptionally good. That's why I ran through the supermarket like a screaming kitchen person when I saw they have cheese pretzels in the assortment. Best of both worlds? I thought so. But unfortunately, I was disappointed after the first bite, because although it indeed tastes good like cheese, I missed the salt crystals that are usually stuck to the pretzels. I understand the reasoning to leave those out, as the cheese would do the salty work, but I really found it just not good enough. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine pretzel, but I would have loved to give five stars again. Now it's a barely sufficient rating. Sorry. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fries with mayo from Zwagers, Amsterdam

fries

Don't have a brother-in-law? That's unfortunate, but luckily you can still go to Zwagers in Amsterdam, specifically in Bos en Lommer. Perhaps the nicest brother-in-law there is. I could write a lot about it, but eating a fries with mayo while the sun smiles at you is perhaps the best feeling there is. They are deliciously crispy, the mayonnaise is so incredibly creamy that you consider giving up your lip balm for this sauce, but maybe I'm exaggerating now. I've had really fantastic fries in Amsterdam, but these go straight into the top 3. Hatsekidee. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
