Woman Behind the Brand

I know Manuela as the charming store manager of Tod’s in the P.C. Hooftstraat. A woman who breathes style and class and has been operating in high-end fashion for 25 years (she also worked at Pauw Amsterdam). When Manuela has daughters Sophia and Phileine, her focus naturally shifts to children's clothing. To what is available and what she misses. ‘My daughter has sensitive skin and found many fabrics uncomfortable. The only thing that really felt good was cashmere.’

Because cashmere has the property of being quite expensive and Manuela found nothing in a somewhat cheaper segment, she decided to produce it herself. Et voilà, Sophi (a contraction of Sophia and Phileine) was born.

‘On the one hand, I wanted to create high-quality products that were also affordable, could be washed in the washing machine, and were produced sustainably.’

Manuela has Sophi Cashmere produced in Mongolia and Nepal, where it is made by women who can become financially independent through this. So it’s not only beautiful to wear or give, but you also support a wonderful initiative.
