These are all the autumn nail polish trends according to the royals

The British royals are going wild. At least, for their standards. The royal rules clearly state that nails must be kept short and clean, with a square shape and neutral colors: light pink, white, and peach shades are preferred. An old-fashioned rule, according to the modern royals. They are increasingly spotted with strikingly colored statement manicures, something the British press naturally loves. And to be honest: so do we. Because who wouldn’t want royal nails this autumn? If we are to believe our favorite princesses, these are the nail trends for the upcoming autumn season.
1. Going goth
Leave it to Meghan Markle to do the exact opposite of what the royal rules prescribe. She often rocks a black look on her nails, finished off with a high-shine topcoat for a chic appearance. The art of embracing this trend is to keep your nails as short as possible to avoid a Halloween look.

2. Pearl topcoat
Did you know we can thank Princess Diana for this trend? It was already clear that the most stylish princess ever was always ahead of the latest fashion, but now that I look at my own pearl-like manicure I really see how much influence she still has on our style evolution. Amazing.

3. Classic red
Kate Middleton? With red nails? During EASTER?! Yup, this really happened. It was the first time we saw her without her classic, neutral manicure that she has kept up since her marriage to Prince William. Could this be because Queen Elizabeth no longer wields the scepter? Whatever the reason: we are fans and if she’s smart, she’ll never look back.

4. Dark gray
A big trend on TikTok, but also secretly in the British royal family, especially with Duchess Sophie Wessex. Nail trend experts predict a lot of gray nail art with combinations of metallics and purples at the forefront. I still have to get used to this combo, but hey: if it’s good enough for the royals, it’s absolutely good enough for us.

5. The Dutch royals
Although our own royals traditionally wore gloves during the last Prinsjesdag, preventing us from seeing their manicures, I recently spotted a set of dark plum nails on Princess Amalia and Queen Máxima seems to be rocking a natural look more often these days, just like on her wedding day. Think: Essie's Ballet Slippers, a color that Queen Elizabeth almost exclusively wore. One thing all royals have in common is that they still always keep their nails short. I secretly hope this will be the next trend that this generation of princesses (or princes, after all, it’s 2023) breaks. I’m betting on Princess Alexia to appear at a royal event soon with a fresh acrylic set with glitter and extensions.
