July is the month of rum: you want to make this Caribbean Spiced cocktail

July is the month of rum, which is very fitting: my brother is the biggest rum lover I know and his birthday is on July 1st. So you can count on that first day being celebrated with — you guessed it — quite a bit of good, tasty rum. And I think that's important because for a long time I never drank rum; I thought I didn't like it. Eventually, it turned out that I just had never tasted good rum.

Fortunately, I have now brought that home and once I am convinced, I am also very loyal: this rum is no longer to be thought of without in my liquor cabinet. It is the BACARDÍ Caribbean Spiced Rum and believe me: you really want to taste this. My brother, as a seasoned rum lover, finds this amazing and I, as a budding enthusiast (and quite picky), am also intensely happy with this. This is mainly due to the spices used; it is therefore perfect to mix with cocktails, but also good to drink neat.

In addition, you can also clearly taste the pineapple, just like the coconut water — one of my favorite flavors. Last year I was on vacation in Jamaica and this rum really reminds me of that. Now that the sun is no longer to be thought of without in the Netherlands, I don't need to go to the Caribbean for that summer feeling and I dare to bet that this could very well become the summer drink of 2023.

You can drink the BACARDÍ Caribbean Spiced neat, but I really think it's top in cocktails. And of course, I’ll share my favorite recipe: the Caribbean Spiced & Cola. Yep, the days of the ancient ‘Caco‘ are numbered because I seriously only drink this variant now. So, so delicious.

Here's how to make the Caribbean Spiced & Cola

  • 50ml BACARDÍ Spiced Rum
  • 100ml Cola

Super easy (but really) to make and if you serve it in a fancy glass, you’ll feel like a professional cocktail shaker. I'm going to drink this all summer long.
