How often you should clean your beauty blender

This was quite a confronting moment for me this week. I've always found makeup fun, and with the arrival of TikTok even more so; I love all the contour hacks and tips when it comes to products. In a TikTok video, you often see whether a product is really good, and to be honest, I had never heard of setting powder before this app came along. Okay, and to make another confession: before that, I also didn't have a beauty blender, and now I swear by it. If there's one product I really can't live without, I think it would be that blender.
What was the confronting moment then? The moment I stumbled upon a TikTok video that showed how to properly clean a beauty blender. Then I realized that since having those blenders, I had never cleaned even one. Nice and hygienic: I just throw them away when they really can't be used anymore and buy a new one. Such a waste. Especially when I found out how often you should actually clean it thoroughly. Are you ready for it?
Once a week. ONE. TIME. Well, I seriously wonder if there are people who actually do this weekly. They recommend this if you use your sponge every day — and not more than once a week, because then it can tear.
That thing is full of bacteria, which happily reside on your blender for weeks or months. Now there are tricks to clean it, like putting it in a bowl of water and microwaving it, but I found that quite a hassle.
That's why I now faithfully clean it every week, nice and simple with a blender cleanser. A child could do the laundry. The blender laundry. And you really don't want to know what kind of dirt came off during that first wash...
PS. It was sold out on almost all sites when I wanted to buy it, so be quick.
